Voltalia has officially commenced construction of the 100MW Spitalla solar farm in the Durres region of Albania. This project is poised to significantly contribute to the country’s renewable energy landscape, with 70% of the electricity generated set to be sold under a public contract secured in 2021. The remaining electricity will be marketed to private sector buyers after the array is commissioned in the second half of 2027.
Project Significance
The Spitalla solar farm follows the successful commissioning of the 140MW Karavasta 1 solar farm in December 2023, which is recognized as the largest solar project in the Western Balkans. The Karavasta project is estimated to prevent 7% of emissions from Albania’s industrial sector, demonstrating Voltalia’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Commitment to Renewable Energy

Voltalia CEO Sebastien Clerc expressed pride in the new initiative, stating, “We are proud to announce the construction of the Spitalla power plant. These initiatives illustrate our ability to carry out projects that contribute to the greening of electricity production in Albania while strengthening the national economy with competitive electricity, both locally and for export.”
Conclusion
The Spitalla solar farm marks a pivotal step towards enhancing Albania’s renewable energy capacity and underscores Voltalia’s role in advancing sustainable energy projects in the region.
