Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer, has officially inaugurated three wind farms in the O’Higgins Region of Chile. With a combined capacity of over 100 MW, these projects represent Statkraft’s first foray into wind energy in Chile, where the company has ambitious plans for renewable energy development.
Key Details of the Wind Farms
The newly inaugurated wind farms—Cardonal, Manantiales, and Los Cerrillos—involved an investment of $148 million and feature 19 state-of-the-art wind turbines. Together, they are expected to generate approximately 330 GWh of clean energy annually, which is equivalent to the average energy consumption of about 100,000 homes.
Commitment to Sustainability
Ingeborg Dårflot, Statkraft’s Executive Vice President for International operations, stated, “As Statkraft’s first wind farm in Chile, it’s also an important milestone for our activities in the country. It will help meet the region’s energy needs in a sustainable way and create positive ripple effects for the local community.” Dårflot attended the inauguration ceremony alongside Chilean Minister of Energy Diego Pardow, Regional Minister of Energy Claudio Martínez, and Norway’s Ambassador to Chile Per Anders Nilsen.
Chile’s Renewable Energy Potential
Dårflot further emphasized Chile’s vast potential for wind and solar energy, remarking, “Projects like these strengthen our presence and consolidate our long-term plans in the country. We are not only celebrating the opening of a wind farm, but also our collective effort towards a more sustainable future.”
Statkraft’s Strategic Expansion

Statkraft is focusing its growth strategy on the Nordics, Europe, and South America, positioning Chile as a key market for its renewable energy initiatives. The operation of these wind farms aligns with Statkraft Chile’s strategy to become a top-tier renewable energy company, with ongoing projects in hydro, wind, and solar energy at various stages of development across the country.
Conclusion
The inauguration of these wind farms is a significant step towards enhancing Chile’s renewable energy capacity and demonstrates Statkraft’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. As the company continues to expand its operations, it aims to contribute to a greener future for Chile and the region.
