Vestas has announced a firm and unconditional turbine order for ESB at the Inch Cape wind farm, a 1.1 GW project developed by Red Rock Renewables off the coast of Scotland. This order confirms a conditional agreement that was signed in September, under which Vestas will supply, install, and commission 72 of its V236-15 MW turbines. The agreement also includes a 10-year service contract and operational support.
Installation Timeline
Turbine installation is set to commence in 2026 from the Port of Dundee, with the wind farm expected to be fully operational by 2027.
Commitment to Sustainable Energy
Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, stated, “We are incredibly proud to have partnered with our trusted customers on this project. Inch Cape will have a significant impact on the UK’s sustainable energy future, and we are grateful to stand at the forefront of this transition.” He emphasized the project’s alignment with the UK Government’s commitment to quadruple offshore wind capacity by 2030 as part of its goal to fully decarbonize electricity.
Project Impact

Inch Cape Project Director John Hill remarked, “Securing the full notice to proceed on the agreement is a great milestone for the project. The 72 V236-15.0 MW turbines are the latest state-of-the-art technology from Vestas and will generate more than 5 TWh of renewable electricity each year, contributing significantly to the UK’s energy security and representing a valuable reduction in carbon emissions.”
Additional Contracts
In addition to Vestas’ turbine order, ESB and Red Rock Renewables have awarded TKF a €200 million contract to supply and install 152 km of 66 kV inter-array cables for the project.
