Trina Solar Signs Landmark 20-Year PPA with Equinix in Japan

Trina Solar ISBU, a key player in the development of large-scale grid-connected photovoltaic power plants and energy storage systems within the Trina Solar Group, has announced a significant milestone: the signing of a 20-year renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) with Equinix through its Japanese subsidiary, Trina Solar Japan Energy Co., Ltd.

The agreement entails the construction of a 30 MW solar power plant located in Yufutsu Abira, Hokkaido, which is expected to generate approximately 36 GWh of electricity annually starting in the third quarter of 2028. This project not only marks Trina Solar ISBU’s entry into the clean energy supplier market in Japan but also aligns with Equinix’s long-term sustainability goals.

This PPA represents Equinix’s first renewable energy agreement in Japan, highlighting the expanding role that Trina Solar ISBU will play in supporting the country’s digital economy and efforts toward industrial decarbonization. Feng Chen, President and CEO of Trina Solar Japan Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “This agreement marks an important milestone for Trina Solar Japan Energy as our first corporate solar PPA.
