This is a fact. A climber who reached the top of Montblanc in France found a large number of jewels, the authorities give him half of the fortune and the authorities keep the rest until the actual owner of the gemstones is found.

A young mountain climber has found a collection of gems atop Montblanc, and the French authorities have given him half of the 150,000 euros ($168,700) to keep after authorities were unable to find the original owner.

The climber found emeralds and sapphires on the mountain in France and has now been allowed to keep half of the stones, according to a Facebook post issued by the Council of Chamonix Montblanc on Friday.

Gemologists and the division of gemstones between the climber and the French local council

Gem experts divided the payload equally between the climber and the local council, with each piece valued at 75,000 euros ($84,350), a council spokesperson told CNN on Tuesday.

According to a Facebook post, the council will display its stones at the Chamonix Crystal Museum, which has undergone a renovation.

The board said the gems were transported aboard an Air India Boeing 707, which crashed in Montblanc in 1966, killing 117 people.

Another Air India plane called “Malabar Princess” crashed in the same area in 1950, killing all 48 people on board.
