The developer behind the 3500MW Dogger Bank offshore wind development in the UK is ramping up vessel support to expedite the delayed project. Seaway 7 has signed a reservation agreement to charter a second installation vessel to assist with turbine installation at the Dogger Bank offshore wind site, currently managed by Jan De Nul and its jack-up vessel, Voltaire.
Project Details and Timeline
Starting in 2026, the Seaway Ventus jack-up installation vessel is expected to commence turbine transport and installation work for GE Vernova’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbines at the Dogger Bank site. This project is a joint venture among SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%), and Vargronn (20%), with SSE Renewables leading construction on behalf of the partners.
Current Status and Progress
This agreement marks additional work for Seaway 7 on the Dogger Bank development, where the company holds contracts for the transport and installation of monopile foundations and transition pieces across all three project phases. Work on Dogger Bank A is complete, while activities on Dogger Bank B are substantially finished. Turbine installation and commissioning are ongoing at Dogger Bank A, with the first phase expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.
Future Impact

Once fully operational in 2027, Dogger Bank will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm, capable of powering approximately six million UK homes annually. Upon completion, Equinor will serve as the lead operator of the wind farm, which is expected to have an operational life of approximately 35 years.
Conclusion
The addition of the Seaway Ventus vessel underscores the commitment to advancing the Dogger Bank offshore wind project, contributing significantly to renewable energy efforts in the UK.
