RWE, the third-largest renewable energy producer in the United States, has announced an extension of its partnership with GE Vernova to supply domestically produced wind turbines for two significant energy projects in Texas. This collaboration aims to address the increasing energy demand while fostering economic development in the state’s rural areas. The projects include the modernization of the existing Forest Creek wind farm, which has a capacity of 127 MW, and the construction of the new 181 MW Honey Mesquite wind farm, set to begin in Fall 2025.
Together, these initiatives will enhance domestic energy production with a total capacity of 308 MW. GE Vernova will supply 109 of its 2.82 MW turbines, all manufactured in the United States, reinforcing RWE’s commitment to national manufacturing and addressing the energy needs of Texas’s industrial and technology sectors.
The Forest Creek project involves a comprehensive modernization of the existing facility, which includes the decommissioning of outdated turbines and infrastructure. New foundations will be constructed for the 45 GE Vernova turbines, extending the operational life of the wind farm by an additional 30 years. Operations are expected to resume by the end of 2025. This project exemplifies the importance of optimizing existing wind farms to maximize energy production while minimizing environmental impacts, supported by a recycling program for the old equipment components.
The Honey Mesquite wind farm, set to commence construction shortly, is anticipated to generate hundreds of jobs during its development phase, significantly benefiting the local economy. Collectively, these projects are expected to inject millions of dollars into the region. Since 2007, RWE has invested more than $9 billion in Texas, underscoring its long-term commitment to the state’s renewable energy landscape.

Local tax revenues are also projected to rise, with an estimated $60 million in tax income expected for Glasscock and Sterling Counties over the lifespan of these projects. According to a report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), wind energy projects can create 1,000 jobs per $1 million invested, translating into substantial employment opportunities for the local workforce.
These projects are part of a broader initiative to enhance the energy security of the United States by increasing the share of domestically produced energy. GE Vernova’s expertise in manufacturing wind turbines in the U.S. plays a crucial role in revitalizing national industrial production and creating new jobs in the renewable energy sector.
“This partnership with RWE demonstrates how collaboration between public and private sectors can effectively expand renewable energy and modernize our energy infrastructure,” said a representative from GE Vernova. “By investing in domestic manufacturing and local economies, we are paving the way for a sustainable energy future.”
RWE’s collaboration with GE Vernova on these Texas wind energy projects not only highlights the importance of renewable energy in addressing growing energy demands but also showcases the economic benefits of investing in clean technology. As the partnership progresses, it is poised to make a lasting impact on both local communities and the broader renewable energy landscape in the U.S. This initiative exemplifies the potential of wind energy to drive economic growth, create jobs, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
