Spanish company Navantia is celebrating ten years in the offshore wind energy sector, marking a significant milestone since the signing of its first contract in 2014. The announcement was made at an event in Madrid, where the company highlighted its impact on renewable energy.
Milestone Contract
Navantia’s first deal was with Iberdrola for the construction of 29 fixed jacket foundations, in collaboration with Windar Renovables, along with an electrical substation for the Wikinger wind farm located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Germany.
Expanding Global Presence
Since that initial contract, Navantia has participated in 21 offshore wind projects, providing industrial structures for the installation and operation of offshore wind turbines across nine countries in Europe and the United States. These projects have supplied renewable energy to approximately three million homes and have helped avoid the emission of 16 million tons of carbon dioxide over the past decade.
Investment in Infrastructure
Since 2014, Navantia has invested over €140 million to upgrade its facilities for offshore wind energy. Ricardo Domínguez, chairman of Navantia, stated, “Navantia Seanergies has very ambitious goals for the future. We have contractual commitments until 2032, which will enable us to fully capitalize on the opportunities in this market, contributing to the decarbonization of the economy and the energy transition while promoting quality employment.”
Strategic Business Development
Recognizing the global commitment to offshore wind energy, Navantia has integrated this business line as a core activity. In 2022, the company established the Navantia Seanergies brand to encompass its offshore wind and hydrogen activities. Javier Herrador, vice president of Navantia Seanergies, noted, “Our collaborative model leverages synergies in shipbuilding and our value chain, boosting auxiliary businesses, creating jobs and skills, and promoting strategic autonomy in energy.”
Achievements and Future Outlook

Throughout its decade of operations, Navantia has generated €1.2 billion in purchases, building a value chain of over 500 companies. The company has constructed 70% of Europe’s floating structures, including projects at Hywind Scotland, Windfloat Atlantic (Portugal), and Kincardine (UK). Herrador added, “Today we are the only European company that can build the three main types of foundations: jackets and monopiles in fixed technology, as well as floating structures.”
