Michael Hannibal Joins Stiesdal Offshore to Propel Floating Wind Technology

Michael Hannibal of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has been appointed as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Stiesdal Offshore, with the goal of accelerating advancements in floating wind technology. This strategic move strengthens the collaboration initiated between CIP and Stiesdal Offshore last October, aimed at advancing large floating wind projects, enhancing project execution, and reducing costs.

Hannibal’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for floating wind technology, which is increasingly recognized as essential for the future of offshore wind energy. While he assumes his new role at Stiesdal Offshore, he will remain a partner at CIP, stepping back from day-to-day operations and project decisions.

Martin Neubert, Partner and Chief Information Officer at CIP, expressed enthusiasm about Hannibal’s new position. “We are very happy to offer Michael’s unique competencies and expertise to Stiesdal Offshore on this very important technology. Floating wind is key to the further development of offshore wind, and with Michael driving this work at Stiesdal, we will accelerate this technology for the market even more.”

Michael Hannibal joins Stiesdal Offshore as Chief Commercial Officer, aiming to advance floating wind technology.

Hannibal, who brings over 20 years of experience in offshore wind, including a previous role as CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind division, shared his excitement for the challenges ahead. “I am excited and privileged to join Stiesdal Offshore as CCO at a crucial time in the development of floating offshore wind,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among developers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies in making floating offshore wind an integral part of the global energy mix.

Floating wind technology is poised for significant growth between 2030 and 2040, particularly as over 70% of the world’s oceans are too deep for conventional offshore wind turbines that rely on seabed installation. This shift is crucial for expanding renewable energy capacity and meeting global climate goals.

Hannibal’s leadership at Stiesdal Offshore marks a significant step forward in the mission to establish floating wind as a mainstream energy solution. With his extensive background and focus on collaboration, the industry can expect accelerated progress in floating wind technology, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
