Engineering and project services company Kent has been awarded a pivotal framework contract to assist the UK government in its energy transition efforts. As part of the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) ENZPS framework, Kent will provide a range of services, including strategic advice, engineering expertise, project management, and environmental consultancy.
The ENZPS framework, which Kent has joined, is valued at up to £250 million and will initially run for a two-year term, with the possibility of extending for an additional two years. This contract represents a significant commitment to advancing the UK’s net-zero goals and reflects the growing importance of sustainable energy practices.
Leveraging its advanced digital tools and data-driven solutions, Kent will collaborate with the UK government to shape and implement policies, programs, and projects aimed at accelerating the transition to net-zero emissions. Les Newman, managing director of Kent Consulting, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, stating, “We are delighted to have been selected to support DESNZ in advancing the UK’s energy transition. This award reinforces our expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable solutions across the energy sector.”
Founded in Ireland in 1919 as a small family business, Kent has evolved into a global operation with a workforce of approximately 13,000 employees. The company’s extensive experience spans offshore wind, low-carbon solutions, and traditional oil and gas sectors, positioning it uniquely to help the UK government tackle the challenges associated with decarbonization.

A recent report from the UK Committee on Climate Change indicates that achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 will require substantial investment in renewable energy infrastructure and innovative technologies. Kent’s deep expertise will be invaluable in navigating these complexities and maximizing the effectiveness of energy systems.
In partnership with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and other partners, Kent aims to optimize energy systems, enhance sustainability, and bolster energy security. This collaborative approach is essential for addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change and energy demands.
Kent’s selection for the ENZPS framework underscores its commitment to supporting the UK government’s ambitious energy transition goals. By leveraging its extensive experience and innovative solutions, Kent is poised to play a critical role in shaping a sustainable energy future for the UK. As the nation works towards its net-zero ambitions, partnerships like this will be crucial in ensuring effective implementation and lasting impact.
