Hitachi Energy is investing in a new renewable energy generation plant near its Figeholm factory, which produces cellulose-based insulation materials for power transformers. This initiative is part of Hitachi Energy’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030.
Sustainable Energy Source
The new plant will utilize wood pellets obtained from sustainable sources, adhering to globally recognized standards for sustainable biofuels. The facility will feature a heating installation with a steam boiler that supplies energy to the presses, utilizing these wood pellets as an energy source. This transition from heavy oil to wood pellets is expected to significantly reduce the factory’s direct Scope 1 GHG carbon emissions and lower the carbon footprint of the insulation materials produced.
Training and Workforce Development
Around 120 employees at the factory will participate in training on the new energy solution, ensuring a smooth transition to the updated processes.
Project Timeline

The renewable energy plant is expected to be completed by summer 2026, marking a significant step forward in Hitachi Energy’s Sustainability 2030 Strategy.
Conclusion
This investment not only supports Hitachi Energy’s sustainability goals but also demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable practices in manufacturing.
