Swiss-based international energy company Axpo has signed a short-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to acquire electricity from two solar power plants in Greece. These facilities, located in the Viotia region, boast a combined installed capacity of 102 megawatts (MW) and were completed in 2023.
The agreement with EDF Renewables Hellas involves energy generated from the Skala Korinis and Loutsa solar farms. This partnership aligns with Axpo’s strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint across central and southeastern Europe.
EDF Renewables Hellas is actively developing a diverse renewable energy portfolio in Greece, aiming for a total capacity of 4.5 gigawatts (GW). The company benefits from the global expertise of EDF Renewables, which specializes in renewable electricity technologies and energy transition initiatives.
Axpo manages an extensive renewable energy portfolio totaling 93 terawatt-hours (TWh) and has a significant presence in various European energy markets. Vasilis Machias, managing director of Axpo Greece, emphasized the importance of this agreement: “This partnership reinforces Axpo’s ability to provide innovative and tailored renewable energy solutions across central and southeastern Europe.”
He noted that by leveraging Axpo’s expertise in renewables, wholesale trading, and risk management, the company is optimizing its portfolio while supporting the energy transition in the region.

Antonis Xenios, CEO of EDF Renewables Hellas, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Axpo. He stated, “This partnership reinforces our dedication to maximizing the potential of renewable energy and accelerating the energy transition, contributing to the decarbonization of the Greek economy.”
With the growing emphasis on renewable energy sources, Greece is positioning itself as a key player in the energy transition. The country is increasingly investing in solar and wind projects to meet its climate goals and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
In early 2025, Axpo Nordic, part of the Axpo Group, also entered a long-term PPA with Finnish renewable energy investor Exilion Tuuli Ky, further expanding its commitment to renewable energy across Europe.
The acquisition of electricity from the Skala Korinis and Loutsa solar plants is a strategic move for Axpo, reflecting its dedication to enhancing its renewable energy portfolio. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions increases, partnerships like this one will play a vital role in supporting the energy transition in Greece and beyond.
