Atlas Renewable Energy and Dow Join Forces for Sustainable Power

Atlas Renewable Energy, a leader in renewable energy solutions and one of Brazil’s largest solar photovoltaic producers, has reached a significant milestone in its partnership with Dow, a prominent player in the chemical industry. Under a new agreement, Atlas will supply clean energy from the Casablanca Solar Energy Complex to Dow’s facility in Bahia, Brazil. This initiative is expected to prevent approximately 37,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, underscoring both companies’ commitment to sustainability and the transition to cleaner energy in the region.

The Casablanca Solar Energy Complex, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, boasts a total installed capacity of 358 MW. This facility is part of Atlas’s broader strategy to enhance centralized solar generation across Latin America. The partnership builds on a previous collaboration initiated in 2020, which involved a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of solar energy from Atlas’s Jacaranda solar complex in Bahia, which itself has an installed capacity of 187 MW.

Carlos Barrera, co-founder and CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy, highlighted the significance of the partnership with Dow. “This collaboration demonstrates our ability to support various industrial sectors, including chemicals, in advancing a cleaner and more efficient energy grid,” he stated. Barrera expressed appreciation for the trust Dow has placed in Atlas to drive the global clean energy transition.

Vinícius Sambuc, Dow’s Commercial Energy Manager in Brazil, noted that long-term power purchase agreements are crucial to the company’s decarbonization strategy. He emphasized that transforming energy production and consumption patterns is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy diversification in Brazil, and ensuring price stability over the contract term.

Atlas Renewable Energy’s Casablanca Solar Energy Complex will help Dow reduce carbon emissions by supplying clean energy to its Bahia facility.

Energy usage constitutes approximately 50% of Dow’s global manufacturing site emissions, prompting the company to prioritize renewable energy as part of its ambitious sustainability agenda. Dow aims to cut its annual net carbon emissions by 5 million metric tons (around 15%) by 2030 and is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Notably, since early 2025, all nine of Dow’s operations in Brazil have been powered entirely by renewable energy sources.
