As part of its goal to make Australia a leader in renewable energy, the Albanese Government is contributing up to $100 million to the Solar ScaleUp Challenge, a global program that aims to lower costs and grow the country’s solar industry. To participate in ARENA’s Solar ScaleUp Challenge, innovators, customers, investors, and specialists in the construction, operation, or maintenance of solar infrastructure are all welcome. During the eight weeks of the challenge, participants will have an online platform to submit their ideas and projects. Entries that make the short list will be eligible to receive a portion of the $100 million grant funding pool, which they can use to refine their ideas.
The global challenge is in line with ARENA’s objective to lower electricity costs to less than $20 per megawatt hour by 2030 and to reduce the installed cost of solar projects to just 30 cents per watt. ARENA seeks to lower the cost of solar energy on a large scale by assembling diverse teams and promoting innovative ideas.
The significance of ultra-low cost solar in providing more affordable and environmentally friendly energy was emphasized by Chris Bowen, Minister of Climate Change and Energy. He highlighted how Australia is at the forefront of solar technology innovation, pointing out that the University of New South Wales is where the modern solar panel was created. “We want to see more technological breakthroughs happen here in Australia, and this is Australian technology,” Minister Bowen stated. He urged every group that promotes solar deployment to take up the $100 million challenge.
