GE Vernova Inc (NYSE: GEV) has just landed a major contract with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s largest power transmission utility. The deal involves supplying over 70 units of 765 kV extra high-voltage transformers and shunt reactors for critical transmission infrastructure projects across the country. This equipment will be essential in strengthening the grid to handle the large-scale evacuation of renewable energy under India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.
This order, placed through GE Vernova T&D India Limited, the company’s publicly listed entity in India, covers the whole shebang: manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the equipment. Production will take place at GE Vernova’s state-of-the-art transformer facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, with deliveries kicking off in 2026 and continuing through 2027.
Ruchir Mayank, Commercial Leader for GE Vernova’s Power Transmission business in India, couldn’t hide his excitement, stating: “This represents one of our largest transformer and reactor orders in the country and is a significant achievement for our Vadodara manufacturing site. We are proud to support the modernization of India’s grid infrastructure and the country’s growing renewable energy sector.”
Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India Limited, echoed this sentiment, adding: “These orders highlight our role in strengthening India’s transmission network to meet the demands of a cleaner, more resilient energy future. As a domestic manufacturer, we are committed to supporting national energy goals through cutting-edge high-voltage technologies.”
POWERGRID is at the forefront of developing renewable energy corridors in key states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. These corridors are vital for integrating renewable energy into the national grid and supporting India’s ambitious clean energy objectives.
GE Vernova’s Vadodara facility has been a key player in producing 765 kV class transformers and reactors since 2009, delivering over 700 units to utilities across India. This latest order reinforces the company’s ongoing investment in grid solutions that support India’s transition to sustainable energy.

This deal is a big win for GE Vernova and a significant step forward for India’s renewable energy goals. By strengthening the grid infrastructure, India is paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, and GE Vernova is playing a crucial role in making it happen. With the production of these high-voltage transformers and reactors, India is set to enhance its capacity to transmit renewable energy across the nation, reducing its carbon footprint and promoting a greener economy.
