DTE Energy, a leading U.S. renewable energy investor and producer, has officially completed the Pine River Solar Park in Michigan. This ambitious 80 megawatt (MW) project, featuring 180,000 solar panels, is projected to generate enough clean energy to power approximately 20,000 homes.
Located in Pine River Township, the Pine River Solar Park marks the second of DTE’s three new solar parks scheduled to connect to the electric grid in 2025. DTE Energy is currently advancing five additional solar parks, demonstrating its commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the state.
Matt Paul, president and chief operating officer of DTE Electric, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “The completion of Pine River Solar will be another milestone in what has been DTE’s most active period of renewable development in its history.” This statement underscores DTE’s leadership in Michigan’s renewable energy sector and its ongoing efforts to support local economic growth through substantial tax revenues.
The Pine River Solar Park is not only a technological achievement but also a boon for the local economy. It is expected to generate significant tax revenue for Gratiot County and Pine River Township throughout its operational lifespan. Township supervisor Kevin Beeson remarked on the positive collaboration with DTE, stating, “We’re pleased to have developed a business relationship with DTE that began with Pine River Wind back in 2019.” This partnership highlights DTE’s responsiveness to community needs, ensuring that resident input is considered throughout the planning and construction phases.
The Pine River Solar Park is part of DTE’s broader CleanVision MIGreenPower program, which encourages community involvement in renewable energy initiatives. As customer interest in sustainable options grows, DTE aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and meet Michigan’s renewable energy standard of 60% by 2035. This ambitious target reflects a growing trend in the U.S. towards cleaner energy solutions, aligning with national goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In October 2024, DTE Energy commenced operations at its 150 MW Sauk solar park in Branch County, Michigan, which features 347,000 solar panels capable of supplying clean energy to an additional 40,000 homes. This expansion further solidifies DTE’s commitment to renewable energy and its role as a major player in Michigan’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
The completion of the Pine River Solar Park represents a significant step forward for DTE Energy and Michigan’s renewable energy landscape. By investing in solar technology and collaborating with local communities, DTE not only enhances energy production but also contributes to economic development and sustainability. As the company continues to expand its solar initiatives, it exemplifies the potential for renewable energy to drive positive change in local communities and beyond.
