Sif Begins Production of Monopiles for Equinor’s Empire Wind 1

Sif has successfully manufactured the first of 54 monopiles for Equinor’s 816 MW Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project at its new production line in Maasvlakte 2, Rotterdam. This project marks a significant advancement in the offshore wind sector and demonstrates Sif’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities.

Investment in Production Facilities

In February 2023, Sif made a Final Investment Decision (FID) to invest €328 million in expanding its production facilities at Maasvlakte 2. Empire Offshore Wind has committed €50 million in advanced factory payments, becoming a key client for this investment program. The expansion was completed on time and within budget, showcasing Sif’s operational efficiency.

Production Timeline

By August 2024, Sif announced that the first of three production lines in the expanded facilities was operational. Transition pieces for the Empire Wind project are currently being manufactured at Sif’s Roermond facilities. The monopiles and transition pieces for the Empire Wind 1 project are scheduled for production in the first quarter of 2025, with plans for shipment to the US for installation offshore New York.
