ECO STOR Partners with Entelios and Enspired

ECO STOR Partners with Entelios and Enspired for Landmark Battery Storage Project

ECO STOR GmbH has signed a marketing agreement for its Eco Power One battery storage project with flexibility marketers Entelios AG from Munich and Enspired GmbH from Vienna, Austria. This 103.5 MW project, currently under construction in Bollingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, will become the largest battery storage facility in Germany, boasting an installed energy capacity of 238.5 MWh. The project is set to connect to the grid by January 2025.

Strengthening Renewable Energy Integration

The partnership aims to combine technological innovation with market-leading expertise to enhance the role of battery storage in stabilizing power grids and integrating renewable energy sources. Eco Power One marks ECO STOR’s first battery storage project exceeding 100 MW and is the eighth such initiative in Germany, representing a significant step towards a sustainable energy supply.

As the owner, technical operator, and installer of the plant, ECO STOR is responsible for all technical and operational aspects. The location’s high proportion of wind generation presents both opportunities and challenges, allowing for renewable energy availability during electricity shortages while addressing grid fluctuations that require stabilization measures.

Role of the Battery Storage System

The battery storage system will temporarily store electricity during periods of high wind and photovoltaic (PV) production, feeding it back into the grid when demand is elevated. By participating in balancing reserve markets, Eco Power One will actively contribute to frequency stability, enhancing the overall security of supply.

Expertise from Partners

Entelios and Enspired bring proven expertise to the project. Entelios, recognized as the first demand response provider in Europe, specializes in bundling and marketing flexibility. CEO Fabian Becker stated, “Eco Power One is an outstanding example of how the combined expertise of all project partners enables decisive progress for the energy transition.” This collaboration aims to optimally integrate renewable energies into the power grid while strengthening long-term supply security.

Enspired will handle the commercial optimization of the battery, employing fully automated digital infrastructure and high-performance algorithms. CEO Jürgen Mayerhofer remarked, “Eco Power One demonstrates how technological innovation and digital optimization can enhance the efficiency of renewable energies.”

Commitment to Ecological Responsibility

ECO STOR emphasizes ecological responsibility, designing the facility’s fencing to be animal-friendly and incorporating native planting to create new habitats for local flora and fauna. This initiative signals that technological advancements can coexist with nature conservation.

Future Prospects

The close cooperation with the grid operator Schleswig-Holstein Netz GmbH will facilitate the development of new algorithms aimed at optimizing deployment planning, further improving the synergy between battery storage systems and renewable energies. The planned commissioning in January 2025 will not only inaugurate one of Germany’s most ambitious energy projects but also set new benchmarks for large-scale storage systems.

In the long term, Eco Power One will support the transition to a sustainable energy supply by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, promoting renewable energy integration, and contributing to significant CO2 emission reductions.
