ENGIE North America and Meta have finalized an Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA), marking a significant step in the renewable energy sector. Under this agreement, ENGIE will supply 260 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy from its Sypert Branch solar project, strategically located near Austin, Texas, and in close proximity to Meta’s data center in Temple.
This solar facility will deliver 100% of its output to Meta, bolstering the tech giant’s already substantial renewable energy procurement portfolio, which now exceeds 12 gigawatts (GW). Operations for the Sypert Branch project are set to commence in late 2025, further enhancing ENGIE’s existing renewable energy portfolio, which currently includes around 8 GW across North America.
ENGIE has earned recognition as a leading developer in the renewable energy sector, particularly in corporate energy Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Dave Carroll, senior vice president and chief renewables officer at ENGIE North America, stated: “We are delighted to announce this agreement with Meta, providing renewable power that supports their growth and aligns with their net-zero commitments. Our proven track record in developing, building, and operating renewable assets positions us at the forefront of the energy transition.”

This agreement represents a milestone for ENGIE, contributing to nearly 1 GW of signed PPAs in the U.S. for 2023. Urvi Parekh, head of Clean Energy at Meta, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are thrilled to work with ENGIE to advance the clean energy transition through projects like Sypert Branch. Since 2020, we have maintained net-zero emissions in our global operations, supported by partnerships that deliver and operate renewable projects to meet our energy needs.”
The solar facility is poised to offer substantial economic benefits to the local community, generating over 300 construction jobs and more than $69 million in tax revenue, with approximately $45 million allocated to two local school districts. This follows ENGIE North America’s recent PPA with Google for renewable energy from its Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas.
